How much do insurance companies typically pay for crowns?

The most common reimbursement rate for crowns is 50%. If your crown qualifies for insurance coverage and you have over $400 in benefits remaining, you can anticipate about $400 coming back to you.

What if my insurance does not pay for my crown?

There are a variety of reasons you might not be paid back as much as you anticipated for your crown.

  • You did not have benefits remaining for the year. Some plans are calendar year (January-December), some are plan years and can start and end on any month (ie March-March, September-September etc.)
  • Your crown did not qualify for replacement (if you have already had a crown done on that tooth in the last 5 years)
  • It is a crown done for aesthetics (no fractures, cracks, or deep decay)
  • It is on the front teeth
  • There was missing information on the claim form

We encourage you to contact your insurance if you do not receive a check back within one month.
